Synonymous with great British design, Globe-Trotter is a luxury travel lifestyle brand producing handcrafted luggage and leather collections. Established in 1897 by David Nelken in Saxony Germany, the company moved to the UK in 1932 where it has remained ever since. Today, all Globe-Trotter suitcases and travel accessories are handcrafted in Hertfordshire, England by highly skilled artisans using original manufacturing methods and machinery that date back to the Victorian era. For 120 years the brand philosophy has remained unchanged: an uncompromising integrity of craftsmanship. Now a modern day classic, Globe-Trotter suitcases combine a uniquely strong, yet lightweight functionality with an iconic aesthetic. As a case travels the world it develops a unique character, continually improving with age. The leather collections adhere to the same core values that define the brands luxury spirit, drawing on a rich historical archive and the same handcrafted approach to production. Globe-Trotter products have been used by a distinguished client list over the years, including some of the worlds most influential individuals. Their durability combined with their light construction made Globe-Trotter suitcases the choice of countless explorers including Captain Robert Falcon Scott and Sir Edmund Hilary. Sir Winston Churchill used a Globe-Trotter Dispatch Case whilst he was Chancellor of the Exchequer in 1924. HM Queen Elizabeth II chose Globe-Trotter for her honeymoon luggage in 1947 and continues to use her cases to this day. Globe-Trotter has also appeared on the silver screen, most recently as James Bonds luggage of choice in Spectre. Alongside the Original, Centenary, special editions and collaborationsuitcase collections, Globe-Trotter also offers the Centenary Leather range. In the spirit of coordinating luggage, the collection is designed to complement the iconic suitcase designs for travellers to have matching ensembles on their journey. David Nelken establishes Globe-Trotter in Saxony, Germany. The British entrepreneur was inspired by the lightweight yet durable nature of vulcanised fibreboard to make his famous suitcases. Globe-Trotter patents the use of vulcanised fibreboard. An experiment at the Zoological Gardens in Hamburg sees a one-tonne elephant balance its entire weight on a Globe-Trotter suitcase to test the strength of vulcanised fibreboard. The resulting image is used in a 1912-13 catalogue and later in 1947. Captain Robert Falcon Scott reaches the South Pole using Globe-Trotter luggage. Globe-Trotter moves to the UK. Winston Churchill becomes Prime Minister. He was one of the earliest VIP collectors of Globe-Trotter. Queen Elizabeth II is gifted a Globe-Trotter suitcase for her honeymoon, which she still uses to this day.
