I have shown this dag to a few experts including Cliff Kranick and Mike Robinson, we are all in agreement that this is most likely a New York dag taken in about 1841. At first we thought it might have been a Cornelius but there are technical reasons why it isn’t. The case is very unusual with very few known examples. The package is in excellent condition, the plate is untouched and likely ungilded.
