Here’s a very rare, early tabletop television manufactured by National Company Inc. This early CRT was manufactured in Malden MA and features a full wooden case with bakelite knobs, a 7 round display, and what appears to be a solid copper chassis. Dimensions are 20 3/4″ x 12 3/4″ x 17 3/4. The main cathode ray tube is still working, and after it warms up the screen displays a steady static. That being said, it is in definite need of a professional tune-up. The brightness needs to be put up to the maximum to make the screen really light up, and even then it’s not the boldest display. The horizontal/vertical adjustments definitely need to be attenuated as they both send the screen image in one direction only, which may be due to the vert/horz center dials around back being frozen in place. The speakers emit a high pitched radio squeal and/or static for the most part, though when I first got it I accidentally tuned into a radio channel. The contrast dial creates a lot of random fuzz and sometimes causes the screen to go dark. As far as cosmetic condition, it’s looking pretty good for it’s age. There are scuffs and some notable scratches and dents in the case, along with some veneer chipping on the corners, especially the upper rear left. The finish has crackling to it from age. All the dials are intact. Center dial around back has the tip broken off. The power supply warning label is half torn away but the two other labels are mostly intact. No cracks in the glass. All tubes appear to light up, as far as the ones I can see at least, though without a tube tester I can’t guarantee that none of them are bad. The power cord I believe is original and is rubber coated and is in great shape aside from a tiny bit of rubber decay on the plug end. The item “Very Rare National Co.
