HONDO COYOTE with case. Billy Gibbons ZZ Top. VERY VERY RARE! 1984
This is an EXTREMELY rare 1984 Hondo Coyote designed by Mark Erlewine for Billy Gibbons of ZZ Top. Fingerboard and body made of Korina (also known as white limba) wood. This guitar is one of the finest and most rare Hondo guitars made by the people at Tokai. Note: Hondo was an American-based company, not the company Hondo II from Korea. Originally designed by Billy Gibbons of ZZ Top. He never played them much so he generally handed them out at shows to fans. They are very rare. I have been in contact with the people of. Hondo, and cannot come up with exact production numbers, but given how few show up, I would have to say less than a hundred. Searching on forums and the like, I know there are at least a dozen that exist. This guitar was developed by Mark Erlewine to be used by the Reverend Billy Gibbons of ZZ Top fame. Had any other designs they might be interested in. Without consulting Mr Gibbons, the Coyote became part of the deal. Consequently, the official word from Billy Gibbons is that. He will neither confirm nor deny any involvement with this model guitar. The guitar is very lightweight since the body is made of Korina. The weight is 6 pounds 14 ounces. There is no veneer on this like you find on Epiphone Explorers and V’s, but is. Made of solid blocks of Korina glued side by side. In this case it looks like 3 pieces glued together. This can be clearly witnessed through the translucent red lacquer finish. Yes, this is a lacquer finish, quite rare for a Hondo. The scale length is 25 inches, a little longer than Gibson’s 24 3/4 inch length and shorter than Fender’s 25 1/2 inch length. The nut width is 1 11/16 inches. Is thin, but not ultra thin. I would compare it to Gibson’s 1960 Les Paul Classic models which are slightly smaller than standard Les Paul’s SG’s and the like. Very much the same shape as Fender American Strats and Teles. The case is original – handle is missing. The guitar plays and sound GREAT! If you are familiar with Heritage Flying V’s or any other solid Korina humbucking guitars, that is the sound! Bright Full BEEFY with all the. Colors of the rainbow! The locking-tuners are not original and in great shape, the neck is straight. Great Setup with very very low action! Custom-made trussrod-cover and embleme in the case! The item “HONDO COYOTE with case. Billy Gibbons ZZ Top. VERY VERY RARE! 1984″ is in sale since Sunday, March 7, 2021.
